Usually not. Most childhood murmurs are innocent sounds from a structurally normal heart. An echocardiogram gives a definitive answer, typically in a single visit.
No — cardiac causes are uncommon. Most chest pain in children is musculoskeletal, digestive or respiratory. Evaluation confirms the cause and rules the heart in or out with certainty.
Yes — it's performed under continuous monitoring with experienced staff and stopped immediately if your child feels unwell.
At standard doses, yes — they remain the most effective preventive treatment. The aim is always the lowest dose that keeps symptoms controlled, with growth monitored at reviews.
Faints during exercise, faints preceded by palpitations or chest pain, or a family history of sudden cardiac death all warrant cardiac evaluation. Typical vasovagal faints — triggered by standing, heat or the sight of blood — are usually benign.
