A GP referral is helpful — and often required by insurers — but is not always necessary for self-paying families. If you're unsure, just ask when booking and the team will guide you.
Book an AppointmentMost health insurers require a GP referral before they will authorise a consultation. Self-paying families can often book directly — check when you book.
Investigations are charged in addition to the consultation and are mostly invoiced by the hospital directly — as a guide, an echocardiogram is £600–£700 and an ECG £100–£125, with reporting included. You'll always know what a test costs before it is performed.
Please give at least 24 hours' notice so the slot can be offered to another family — the full fee is payable for late cancellations, and insurers may pass a non-attendance bill on to insured patients.
There is no charge for an initial repeat-prescription or email follow-up request; subsequent requests are chargeable.
